WHY PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Most of us will find ourselves feeling ‘stuck’ or distressed at some point in our lives.

You may be experiencing low mood or worry or be full of self-doubt and low in confidence; you may have personal or professional relationship difficulties; you may feel isolated and alone; you may be enduring a bereavement or other significant loss; there may be trauma or events you've experienced that play on your mind or get in the way of living life to the full; you may have a more general sense of dissatisfaction or unease and not know exactly what's wrong; you may simply want to explore more fully who you are and who you want to be. The issues that bring us to therapy are as varied and unique as we are.

Whilst there are many different schools of psychotherapy, research shows that a caring and trustworthy relationship between client and counsellor is the common factor for a positive outcome. I am a warm and down-to-earth psychotherapist working in Dalston, E8 and online and I can help you by providing a safe and confidential therapy relationship in which you can share anything you want to with me, in confidence, at your own pace and without being judged.

Believing, as I do, that each one of us has great personal resources, I work in a person-centred way, sensitively exploring your inner landscape with you, following your lead to what is most important to you, without offering advice or analysis. I will work with you to help you to see the wood for the trees, to explore and perhaps to better understand your difficulties, whatever they might be, and to help you to draw on your own inner strength for self-acceptance, self-direction and positive change.

We can review our work regularly to ensure that you feel you are getting what you need and your feedback about me or anything that happens in a session is welcome at any stage in our work. I don't prescribe how long we should work together; we can meet for as many sessions as you wish.

The prospect of sharing our thoughts, feelings and experiences can be really daunting, especially if they feel confusing or painful, irresolvable or unimportant. Making initial contact with a therapist can take a great deal of courage. I do understand that and I'm here when you're ready.

Being heard, understood and genuinely accepted can really help us. The benefits that therapy brings can be felt in all aspects of our lives.

ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME

Image: Ric Bacon

I  am a qualified, accredited and experienced Person-Centred Psychotherapist, working in private practice on a one to one basis, weekly, with adults. I aim to provide a warm, understanding and accepting therapy relationship in which we can safely explore together whatever you choose to bring.

My initial academic and vocational training was in the performance arts. I draw upon my experience and understanding of the particular difficulties actors, musicians and dancers can face, in my work with them.

I re-trained as a Counsellor and then as a Psychotherapist at the Metanoia Institute in London.

I have a Masters degree, the MSc in Person-Centred Psychotherapy awarded by Middlesex University. My qualitative research explored the experience of attending boarding school and the particular reverberations those who have boarded might feel in adult life.

My work is fully insured and is underpinned by regular clinical supervision. I invest in continuing personal and professional development in order to be able to offer an informed, contemporary and dynamic practice.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION & MEMBERSHIPS

I am an Accredited Member of the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP) and a Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and work within the ethical frameworks of each.

I am a member of the Metanoia Institute, of The Person-Centred Association (TPCA) and of the World Association of Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counselling (WAPCEPC).
